The Tuakana-Teina Project, a Creative New Zealand-supported joint initiative of Hekama Productions and the SmackBang Theatre Company, resulted in two new plays that will premiere during Matariki Festival 2011:

- Te Awarua: by award-winning writer and ‘tuakana’ (mentor) Albert Belz, and directed by Jarod Rawiri*
- Strong Hands: written by ‘teina’ (mentee) Michael Rewiri-Thorsen and directed by James Beaumont.

*Please note 60% Te Awarua is in Te Reo Maori
