Auckland-based NZTrio (violinist Justine Cormack, cellist Ashley Brown and pianist Sarah Watkins) visit the New Zealand School of Music to perform in this Friday Lunchtime Concert in the Adam Concert Room at NZSM's Kelburn Campus.

The programme will be:
Kenji Bunch (USA): 'Swing Shift – Groove Boxes'
Chris Gendall (NZ): 'Intaglio'
Stuart Greenbaum (Aus): The Year Without Summer
Michael Norris (NZ): dirty pixels

NZTrio thrives on connecting with audiences through intimate and exhilarating performances. The trio’s refreshing programmes juxtapose classical masterpieces with brilliant contemporary works, mix musical cultures and genres, and involve collaborations with a broad range of international artists. Critical acclaim for the group’s performances extends to their expanding catalogue of recorded work: 'Spark' (a ); 'Bright Tide Moving Between' and Flourishes'. The first two were finalists for best Classical Album at the NZ Music Awards in 2006 and 2008 respectively.

In this concert they concentrate on the contemporary with a strong connection to NZSM and NZ music. Chris Gendall has just completed his year-long Composer in Residence position at NZSM, and Michael Norris is Head of Composition Studies at NZSM. The latter's work, dirty pixels, was commissioned by NZTrio. In addition, Stuart Greenbaum's work was a direct result of the NZTrio's involvement in the TransTasman Composer Exchange, a joint project of SOUNZ, the Centre for New Zealand Music and the Australian Music Centre.

This is the group's second visit to NZSM this year - they were part of the acclaimed 'O Cambodia' performance in March. On this occasion they will also work with NZSM Performance students in a Chamber Music Masterclass in the afternoon.
