Come and hear some of the most loved stories performed live in words and music by the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
Opening the concert is Rossini's William Tell Overture, also know as the theme from "The Lone Ranger". Listen as the music begins with a wild and dramatic storm and finishes with a galloping horse chase.
Originally written for a ballet, Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird is considered one of the great works of the orchestral repertoire. Based on a Russian folk tale, The Firebird tells the story of Prince Ivan who, with the assistance of the magical Firebird, conquers the cruel and evil sorcerer Kashcei the Immortal. Featuring wild and energetic dance rhythms, powerful brass and percussion, delicate wood wind and string writing, the Firebird is an orchestral tour de force.
Concluding the concert is the hilarious and mad-cap story - Spike Milligan's BadJelly the Witch. Loved by all, this reading is accompanied by the orchestra in an arrangement by Christchurch based musician, Tom Rainey.
This concert is suitable for the young and young at heart.
