In July this year an exciting new event is coming to Tauranga… The inaugural Tauranga Mid-Winter Christmas Market will be an opportunity for Kiwis to experience a traditional cold festive celebration the way millions of people around the world do! Wrap up in your warm winter clothes; wander through magical markets shopping for special presents; drink mulled wine and enjoy Christmas foods and treats.

The Tauranga Mid-Winter Christmas Market will offer the chance to bring family, friends and the community together to join in the festive spirit of a traditional cold Christmas.

In New Zealand, Kiwis do not get the chance to experience a cold Christmas but the Tauranga Mid-Winter Christmas Market aims to be an annual event, providing all the magic and charm of a traditional European Christmas that those who have lived in Europe have come to miss. On Saturday 16th July 2011, the Historic Village will be transformed into a joyful and magical atmosphere. A strong Christmas theme will be reflected throughout with beautifully adorned Christmas trees, decorations and lights filling the village streets.

As well as this there will be a special phone line to the North Pole, and of course a visit from Santa himself. The event stage will boast live entertainment from local star Luke Thompson and jazz sensation Kokomo. The stage will also feature community group performances, Christmas carols and school bands. A beautiful nativity scene will occupy the old historic church, and a series of Christmas demonstrations will feature over the course of the day to inspire people for the festive season. A competition will run through the Bay of Plenty Times to decorate all the houses in the streets, so that as darkness starts to fall, everyone will wait in anticipation for the Historic Village to be lit up in a brilliant display of Christmas lights!

People from near and far will be invited to bring their friends and family for a stroll down the beautifully decorated streets of the Historic Village. Wandering through the Village to the sounds of live entertainment will encourage people to taste all that the market has to offer. There they will find market stalls displaying artistic handicraft, Christmas decorations, artisan foods, unique toys and lots more to get them excited about the Christmas season.

One of the key features of this event will be the market stalls lining the streets of the village. Be it an early Christmas present, or some form of Christmas craft or homemade goods. There will be stalls with honey and macadamia products, cheese makers, artists, handmade wood products, fruit punch, baking and chutneys.

Alongside the market stalls there will be a variety of different food and beverage stalls, again all fitting the Mid-Winter Christmas theme. Food and beverage stalls will sell the likes of mulled wine, baked potatoes, kebabs, crepes, pizzas, specialty beers and wine, hot beverages, special coffees, roasted chestnuts and roasted meats.

So why not come and join the celebration and help spread the Christmas cheer?

thought it was a total rip off!!! Don't think you got anything at all for your $25 entrance fee. And couldn't believe that they charged $2 to go in to wee petting zoo thing when you had to pay to get in the front gate. Didn't feel anything like a mid-winter Christmas. Wouldn't go back next year
