July is international zine month, and Auckland is celebrating with a month long calendar of events – under the umbrella of the Auckland Zinefest. The festival celebrates a DIY approach to publishing, where enthusiasts produce and share ideas, musings, writing and artwork using readily available tools.
The main Auckland Zinefest event will take place at Karangahape Road’s St Kevin's Arcade and Wine Cellar. The day will feature stalls, workshops, and talks focusing on the art of DIY publishing.
Featuring:
A talk by Sam Orchard - "Trans and Queer Web Comics"
A panel discussion organised by Rebel Press - "Zines as a Tool for Resistance"
Collaborative zine making workshop with Pritika Lal of Common Bliss and friends.
And your favourite K Road local David Merritt from Landrover Farm Press will be taking a binding workshop: "Inside Out", using recycled hardback book covers, scavenged cardboard and flour sacks.
All this plus so much more on the day.
