Alexa Still: flute.
Martin Riseley: violin.
Diedre Irons: piano.
Three of New Zealand's best-loved performers team-up for the very first time to perform as a formidable trio.
Alexa Still, former principal flute of the NZSO, is currently based at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where she is Head of Flute Studies. She maintains a busy concert schedule, having presented recitals, concertos and master classes in England, Germany, Slovenia, Turkey, Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, Canada, Korea, China, Australia, the United States, and New Zealand.
Recently returned to New Zealand, audiences will remember Martin Riseley as the winner of the TVNZ Young Musicians Competition in 1988. In 1996, Martin gained a Doctorate of Musical Arts from New York's Juilliard School of Music before taking up a position as Artist-in-Residence at the University of Alberta, Canada. While in Canada, Martin also served as Concertmaster of Canada's Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. In 2009, Martin took up the position of of Head of Strings at the New Zealand School of Music.
Diedre Irons has toured extensively as a performer, both in NZ and internationally, and was the Head of Piano Studies at the New Zealand School of Music until recently. Equally at home performing solo or with chamber musicians, Diedre's performances are always praised for their intimacy and great sensitivity.
Savour the succulent melodies of Schubert's Fantasie in C alongside Bach's Trio Sonata and Ravel's virtuosic and gypsy-inflenced Tzigane. In the second hald, Prokofiev's bright and lyrical flute sonata is contrasted with a trio by one of the 20th century's best-known film compsers, Nino Rota, who composed the scores for both The Godfather and Franco Zeferelli's Romeo and Juliet.
Programme:
JS Bach: Trio Sonata in G BWV 1039.
Schubert: Fantasia for violin and piano in C D 934 'Sei mie gegrusst' Opus Posth 159.
Ravel: Tzigane.
Prokofiev: Sonata in D for Flute and Piano Opus 94.
Ian Clarke: Zoom Tube.
Nino Rota: Trio for flute, violin and piano.
