After humble beginnings in 1900 the Davis Cup is now the world’s largest annual international team competition in sport, with 125 nations competing in 2010. All of the greatest players have taken part in the fiercely competitive event including Rod Laver, John McEnroe, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafal Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
Tennis NZ has taken part in the Davis Cup Competition since 1924 and have played 120 ties in the 62 years. This year the top Kiwi players are back in Asia/Oceania Group I just below the world’s top 16 nations and the competition is tough, but the New Zealanders will be giving it everything on the court to win.
The New Zealand Team are playing Philippines in the second round of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Group I Asia/Oceania Competition. It is a must-win game for New Zealand and they need home country support. The three day event is being held from Friday 8th July to Sunday 10th July, indoors at the TSB Hub, Hawera, where in the past the crowd has helped the players to success.
On Friday there will be two singles played. On Saturday the is doubles tie and Sunday is the reverse singles. Purchase your tickets before the 13th June and be in to win a spot prize! Disclaimer: no refunds will be given if the tie is dead. In accordance with new Davis Cup Rules, if the fourth match is decisive and is 4 sets or more, the final dead rubber does not have to be played.
