The Human Instinct are a kiwi rock band from New Zealand with a reputation for their explosive live performances and the radical rock they have recorded on 7 albums. They have often been cited as legendary heavyweights of NZ Rock.

Their live performances are a spectacular display of energy driven by frontman, lead vocalist and drummer Maurice Greer who, situated front and center stage, plays standing up as hammers into his enormous modified drum kit to produce the rock-solid sound which is their trademark. Followed closely by Tony's fiery bass grooves and a guitar fest of major proportions by dual lead guitarists Phil and Joel they produce a riveting guitar-heavy and blues-rock focused performance.

The Human Instinct's sound, a melting pot of heavy psychedelic and blues rock is absolutely their own brand of high-powered rock. Their influences are many and their repertoire includes original, blistering compositions and their unique signature on timeless covers from the Kinks, Joe Walsh, Jimi Hendrix and other rock greats.

Human Instinct's extensive 40 year career, has been on a constant upward trajectory since their formation in the mid 1960s. With Maurice Greer the only constant in the band, the Human Instinct has experienced multiple line-up changes and has been a vehicle for 28 of NZ's top musicians producing a legacy of nearly 30 singles and 7 albums across its various incarnations. Two of their albums featured in Rip It Up's NZ Top 100 albums of all time. They have played second billing to the Rolling Stones on their 1966 NZ tour, spent time touring and playing the British circuit alongside the Jeff Beck Group, The Small Faces, The Moody Blues, The Nice and many others and in more recent years have shared the main stage at festivals with Oasis, Muse, Weezer, Fall Out Boy and more.

Despite the lapse in decades, the band has not shown any sign of aging and still demonstrates its legendary prowess in the world of rock music. Having developed a cult like following with their earlier work, the release of their new album “Midnight Sun” has once again propelled them into the limelight and primed the world stage for their return to the touring circuit. Asian, European and national tour dates are being planned, with dates at several notable festivals already confirmed.

Proud to support the Hamilton Blues Society, catch the Human Instinct close up at full throttle on Thursday 7 July when they hit the stage at Biddy Mulligans in Hamilton.

Lineup:
Maurice Greer - Vocals/Drums
Phil Pritchard - Guitar
Joel Haines - Guitar
Tony Baird - Bass
