Hamilton artists will be treated to a life-drawing class that breaks all the rules by combining the increasingly trendy art of burlesque dancing with a visual art competition and unique sketching opportunity.
Beautifully costumed cabaret dancers, awesome acts, will strip down to bare essentials and pose for sketching. The night is interspersed with performances and ridiculous drawing contests such as ‘best left hander’ or ‘best incorporation of woodland animal’.
Dr Sketchy was originally set up by an art school drop-out from Brooklyn, Molly Crabapple. Founded in 2005, she asked a simple question, ‘Why can’t drawing naked people be sexy?’ With the increase of interest in burlesque due to the popularity of celebrities such as Dita Von Teese and Lady Gaga, the event has become a worldwide movement.
Held bi-monthly, Hamilton's very own Dr Sketchy Branch has the Hellmilton Roller Ghouls skating around, other local talent includes, Miss Burlesque NZ 2011 Bettsy Rose Lee, Azure D'Murre, & the fabulous Little Miss Broadway.
So sharpen your pencils... and get busy with this session...
