Collected Fictions is collaboration between Waikato Museum and Wintec School of Media Arts, and features a large scale sculptural work designed by artist Kim Paton that takes up occupancy in the prominent forecourt of the Waikato Museum. It will be located almost directly on top of the Museum’s permanent collection which is stored underground away from public view.
Collected Fictions offers contemplation on the normal role and rules of a museum collection, featuring works that tell their own story whether it may be constructed truth, myth, legend or lie. The structure houses a collection of 12 small scale works by leading contemporary New Zealand artist:, Mike Heynes, Lynda Wilson, Regan Gentry, Gregor Kregar, Tim Larkin, Andrea du Chatenier, Peter Trevelyan, Joe Sheehan, Martin Poppelwell, Lauren Winstone, Nick Browne and Ben Pearce, and is curated by Gareth Williams and Kim Paton.
