Bastille Day 2011

This year again, the French community will loudly celebrate Bastille Day, their national holiday, with food, live music and, of course, lots of fun on Friday 15 July 2011.

A Masquerade party to celebrate Le Quatorze Juillet – the commemoration of the storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789 – will be held at Freemans Bay Community Hall from 7.00pm to midnight.

The fall of the Bastille prison in 1789 became the symbol of the French revolution and has since been celebrated with fireworks, parades, parties and events each year in France – or wherever you find proud French citizens. This year the Auckland event will be bigger and better than ever.

Over the last few years we have seen a real surge in interest from locals for all things French. Auckland is increasingly becoming a petit Paris. Bastille Day is yet another excuse for the community to celebrate.

Bastille Day 2011 will start with a show featuring French typical dance performed by La Bourée, Tahitian dance and more. The show will be followed by a ball. Food stools will be open all night long, offering sweet and savoury cakes, crepes, quiches, etc.

The event is being organised by the local French associations, Alliance Française, Auckland Accueil, Les Petits Lascars and Amuse Gueule.
