The Russians are coming! Anna Pavlova and the de Basil Ballets Russes in NZ.

This talk explores the influence of the Russian dancer Anna Pavlova and Wassily de Basil’s Ballets Russes during their famous tours to New Zealand in the 1920s and 1930s. Music and choreography will both be examined.

Tara Jahn-Werner manages her own arts consultancy in Auckland specialising in the creative industries. She has many years of practical experience, especially in arts marketing and project management, and has a specific focus on professional and organisational development in the arts. She is also a composer, photographer and established author on the performing arts. Her book on the history of dance in New Zealand, published by Random House, was received with outstanding reviews.

Jahn-Werner's academic area of expertise is in cultural and creative industries management. She works with postgraduate students on the Masters of Arts Management, and teaches the two core papers; "The Contemporary Creative Organisation" and "The Nature of the Cultural and Creative Industries." Her particular areas of interest include arts marketing, audience development, arts entrepreneurship, cultural policy, cultural economics, as well as business planning and strategic management in creative enterprises. Prior to AUT she was responsible for the arts management programmes at the University of Auckland Business School, which included the Masters of Creative and Performing Arts (arts management) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Arts Management.
