The gruelling Velux 5 Oceans race challenges its entrants to sail solo around the world. This year, the Ultimate Challenge will be stopping over in Wellington for the first time.

While the sailors are in New Zealand ongoing celebrations, exhibitions, festival activities and summer fun will be held as well as an impressive outdoor photo exhibit.

The harbour-side festivals will end with a 'bang' when the race departs for its next stopover, Brazil, on February 6. Thousands of race followers and enthusiasts will send the sailors off in true Kiwi style.
