This is a three week intensive course, suitable for beginners and advanced levels. Learn to make simple forms in wax, before moving on to texturing, and more advanced forms as your skills grow. These waxes may be cast in a metal of your choice. Learn to create forms in wood, suitable for jewellery, working with some of the same tools. You will also be shown silver soldering, and finishing techniques for your work.
Tutor: Vaune Mason
Course details:
Carving in wax for casting into metal, so you can learn to create your own designs simply and easily
in jeweller’s wax and then reproduce them in the metal of your choice.
In wood, so you can learn to select beautiful recycled woods to shape the wood into simple forms or more complex delicate creations for use as pendants, earrings, or as part of a larger silver piece.
Wood is one of the nicest materials to work, it is cheap to resource and non toxic, and can easily be worked in a variety of ways.
You can also learn cuttlefish casting, the simplest, most hands on, and quickest method of casting, should time permit.
Your waxes will be sent away to a professional casting company to be cast in the metal of your choice.
Course fees include some basic materials, wax, wood and casting fees. Your metal choice is additional, and can cost as little as $1.00 for bronze.
Held at Workspace Studios at Toi Poneke.
