Anniversary Gig

Nothing blue about a long weekend! It’s Auckland Anniversary weekend and Monday's a day off so why not throw a concert. The Anniversary Gig, newly established to the Summer Series calendar is a four hour blues gig. Featuring two bands (The Flaming Mudcats and She Jus' Greedy Blues) who are both highly credited and portray a slightly different twist on the Blues genre. This is going to be a great evening of music.

The Flaming Mudcats are a new Auckland-based rootsy blues band. This four piece band swings, playing those great grooves along with burning harp and smoking guitar lines. Influenced by the likes of Little Walter, Johnny Guitar Watson, Magic Sam and Kim Wilson, the boys have compiled an exciting set list. Out of a rehearsal in 2009, a gathering of four players with a common drive to play this brand of blues, resulted in the formation of The Flaming Mudcats.

She Jus’ Greedy is a combination of many different musical styles; rock, blues, funk, soul and reggae. They are prolific writers and this melting pot of styles can be heard in their music, each member brings weight and character to each song, the result being something special and unique, they have been described as “refreshing” which is indeed high praise in today’s musical climate. Prepare yourself for good music.
