For those loving a good picnic and Beethoven Sonatas and all of this in one of the most historic places in New Zealand, there is an excellent way to spend Sunday 16 January 2011 in the Bay of Islands.

Pompalier Gardens in Russell is a historic garden and building where Art Zegelaar's performance of a great many Beethoven Sonatas last year was so successfull that he was asked and invited to make it into a yearly tradition.

During the past one and a half year Art Zegelaar has performed two Beethoven Sonatas each month and end of this year he will have completed the full set. Many of the most beautiful and famous sonatas - Appasionata, Waldstein, Tempest, Les Adieux maar verder selecties van Moonlight, Pathetique, Pastorale and other less well known sonatas - will be performed during 'Picnic with Beethoven' Sunday 16 January 2011 from 17.00-21.00 in Pompallier Gardens in Russell, The Bay of Islands. It is allowed to attend parts of the concert, but last year the audience did not let Art stop and kept asking for more.

Concert goers bring a rug and a basket with food and drinks and Art Zegelaar transports his top class Boesendorfer to the gardens. We hope and expect good weather, but we have arranged for a venue if the weather is not good.

Art's most endearing experience last year was when he bought two weeks later an ice cream in Paihia and the person serving, a 19 year old girl suddenly said: "I was at your concert two weeks ago, that was sooo touching!" Said Art: 'This ice cream is going to taste very good!'.

It was a gamble this year, with Ninja the unpredictable
guest to throw a Garden Concert into disarray. But No No,
the weather was fantastic. And with even more people than
last year who had made themselves on the way to a
different evening in a historic ambience with food and wine and
    wonderful Music.

And they had come from Kaitaia, Waiheke Island, tourists
enjoying their stay in New Zealand, locals and even
people from Kerikeri were able to break free from their own
cultural bonds to spend a sunday evening, bringing many
youth and small children to Pompallier Historic Gardens
    in Russell.

'Passion is all that matters!', commented one concertgoer. And if a
pianist manages even young children to listen in wonder
for almost three hours, then lots of that was there.
