Aoraki Summer Sizzler Super 12 Dragon Boat Regatta 2011

Join the festivities on the grassy banks or sandy beaches of Lake Pegasus this Saturday, and be part of 'something new'. For the very first time in the South Island, Aoraki Dragons bring you the 12-paddler version of the sport. So let's see how teams cope with a modified version of the racing.

Starting in the 2010-11 season, Aoraki want to encourage paddlers back into the boat after the New Year break. Many paddlers will still be with their families, lazing on the beach. But for those that are in town, we will run a new concept to South Island dragon boating - the Super 12 format. Competitive racing, plus lots of fun races on Pegasus Lake.

Instead of the full crew of 22 in a boat, all you need are 12 paddlers (plus a sweep, and a caller). If you don't have a sweep, we can allocate one. Composite teams and casual paddlers are welcome. $100 entry per team (or $7 per paddler) on the day.

The events on display will also be a little different. Plenty of fun races and chances for on-the-water glory.

Note this is on Saturday 29th January 2011. A Triathlon series is being run in Pegasus Town on the Sunday.
