Examining issues around treaty processes: why and how and do they achieve their purpose. Do treaties serve the partners that make them? Is there an impact on human rights? Do these agreements influence a nation? Is there an ecological significance?

On February 6th Aotearoa New Zealand acknowledges the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi – an agreement with various Iwi and the Crown.

Artists from various backgrounds have been asked to create work referencing any Treaty with which they are familiar. Treaty Issues seeks to broaden dialogue around ‘The Treaty’ and perhaps commonalities with other treaties. Through discussion we enlarge our own vision and understanding of the local experience.
Curator: Gabrielle Belz

Opening: 27 January
Gallery hours: Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm, Weekends 1pm – 4pm
