Vanessa Reed: Know the Game: Players

Vanessa Reed is fascinated by identities. Those we fashion for ourselves and those we pretend at in advertising and games. She’s an avid collector, and from her vast stash of board games and magazines she’s brought us these intriguing Players. They aren’t just cut and paste though. No, she’s given them new life. A twist to their tale. Now it’s up to us to try and figure out what their game is.

Mr Perfect, have you seen him before? Would you add him as a friend? Or how about Friday Knight, would this swell guy really serve you up fish’n’chips and romance?

These Players are time travellers. One’s a winner from the 1960s, another escaped from a 1970s Mystery Date game. Some have appeared in Vanessa’s previous works, but like old acquaintances they reappear here with fresh profiles and new stories to tell. They’ve no intention of throwing in their cards just yet. Here in Know the Game: Players each preside over a meticulous grid of layered bandages, a textural world for them to rule, and you to decipher.
