For the inaugural First Light in the High St District we have extended the wonderful exhibition Paul Cullen - HTWW:devices.

First Light - Friday 30th September has been initiated by the High St District, the area the gallery is located in. An array of events - fashion, music and art - will run during the day and into the evening, providing the opportunity enjoy the balm nights, now daylight savings has begun.

Here in the gallery we have extended Paul Cullen's wonderful exhibition HTWW:devices.

In the exhibition we find a modified world map, mechanical contrivances, and sets of diagrams are deployed through the gallery spaces.

Cullen’s interest in gardens, and such scientific sites as magnetic observatories, atmospheric monitoring and climatology stations, is apparent here. He has noted that climatology stations “comprise objects, buildings, and equipment, fenced off from the surrounding space, in the manner of an installation”. Space within scientific sites is configured by assemblages of the objects and equipment employed in measurement and data collection.

Earlier in the week the gallery hosted Maaike - a new high-end womenswear label based in Auckland and represents the innovation and creativity of designers Abby van Schreven and Emilie Pullar. During First Light we will show the short film created to launch their summer wear.

So do drop into the gallery and enjoy the First Light events.
