Based in Whangarei, Fiddlelore play a joyful and energetic mixture of music which crosses several genres. From foot-stomping Scottish fiddle tunes, to gypsy swing, to slow ballads, and some beautiful singing, their infectious music and stage presence has become very popular with audiences around the country.
Fiddlelore is a group of three young fiddle players - Grace Stevenson (19), Kathleen Wojcik (18) and Emily Roughton (22), who have been playing and performing together for several years. Fiddlelore have assembled a large repertoire of traditional and contemporary Scottish tunes, and recently they have been branching out into Eastern European/gypsy music. In January 2009 they were guest performers at the Auckland Folk Festival, and were invited as guests to play at the 2010 Dunedin Folk Festival. Fiddlelore are accompanied by award-winning singer/guitarist Penelope Foote. Penelope has been NZ's Country Music Songwriter of the Year and has won many national singing awards.
Also playing with Fiddlelore is Auckland-based guitarist Mark Mazengarb (of Beyondsemble). Mark brings the gypsy and bluegrass elements to Fiddlelore, and has been playing in the group for the past two years. Mark is recently back from touring in the USA and Europe where he was a guest performer at the Chet Atkins Convention in Nashville, and did a series of concerts in Ireland, Germany and the Czech Republic with Craig Denham and Jon Sanders.
