Opening exhibition night - Thursday 3rd Feb @ 5:30pm
Creative Tauranga Art Gallery proudly presents The 4th Annual Waitangi Day Exhibition.
"Taku Turangawaewae" - Waitangi Exhibition 2011 - My standing place.
Kia ora, where do you stand? (Kei whea koe turangawaewae?)
For the theme of Waitangi Day Exhibition 2011 Creative Tauranga has invited selected artists to interpret ‘Taku Turangawaewae’.
This title allows the artist to explore and express their standing place in relation to Waitangi Day. The Treaty of Waitangi and all of its implications – as they, the artist see it.
Those selected perhaps choosing to interpret from a physical or spiritual viewpoint, to whanau, iwi or marae based, maybe from Aotearoa’s perspective to the global stage and onwards to our future with
political commentary to pure enjoyment and celebration of our national holiday are all many of the possibilities created by examining taku turangawaewae.
This exciting exhibition will directly reflect the diverse range of interpretation of Waitangi Day with an equally diverse mix of accomplished collectable artists. Both nationally and internationally, such as Linda Munn, Naomi Leonard, Dion Seeling and Debbie Tipuna.
Combined with artists to watch and invest in as future collectable artists: Maraea TimuTimu, Justine Munn, Hipara August, Corrina Heke-Mayes.
This is an opportunity not to be missed. With an eclectic selection of paintings, sculpture, raranga, clay and carving there is something for everyone, so please join us to celebrate our 4th Annual Waitangi Day Exhibition 2011.
You are warmly invited to the opening night of ‘Taku Turangawaewae‘ ‘My Standing Place’ - 3 of February 2011 5.30pm at Creative Tauranga Art Gallery Willow St.
All works are for sale.
Nau mai, haere mai, all welcome.
