NZSO Soloists Tour No. 1
Experience the HEART of the NZSO.
Indulge yourself in the rich sonorities of combined orchestral wind instruments in this program of classic works highlighting the exceptional skills of the NZSO wind players and guest Gordon Hunt. Richard Strauss chose the combination of wind instruments for some of his most cheerful and delightful music, and the two early works showcased here display to the full the young composer’s vivid musical imagination in a feast of sunny tunefulness and romantic sensibility. The ascent of the wind instruments in the 18th century inspired composers to explore the newfound power and richness of colour that they can achieve. Beethoven’s Octet shows off his youthful artistry in pure 18th century classicism, and forms a delightful pairing with the elegance of Franz Krommer’s Partita. From the 19th century, Bohemian master Josef Forster’s superb musical craftsmanship and feeling for melody is on display in his Wind Quintet, a classic of the genre.
“NZSO Soloists“ showcase varied ensembles of NZSO musicians dedicated to performing a wide range of music across New Zealand.
