Raspect Records producer and frontman Ali MC presents the debut, limited edition 7 inch single from New Dub City Sound, a fresh mash up of reggae, dancehall, hip hop and dub. Featuring two songs, Home and Dub in Liberia, Ali MC combines conscious lyrics, solid beats and a backdrop of echoes and delays delivered with distinct energy and passion.

Ali MC and New Dub City Sound will be launching their debut 7 inch single with three shows in New Zealand – Wired Number 8 (Timaru) on February 17, Chicks Hotel (Dunedin) on February 18 and Revolver (Queenstown) on February 19. Punters will have the opportunity to buy the limited edition 7 inch at the shows or by contacting Raspect Records.

Home, produced by Ali MC, is a laid back summer dub with an overlay of surf guitar sounds, while Dub in Liberia is a reggae soundscape of life in the war-torn African nation, and sees UK Metalheadz producer Mikal lend his gritty techniques to the track. Adding to the stylish production sound is punk-pop sleeve art designed by Jamaican born, New York bred artist Freestylee, whose work recently appeared in the National Gallery of Jamaica.

The 7 inch follows the online single and film clip release Welcome to Melbourne, Ali’s take on Damien Marley’s seminal Welcome to Jamrock, which speaks of racism within Australia and condemns police brutality towards Aboriginal people.

Ali MC combines his love of late '70s reggae, dub and punk with musical and lyrical styles experienced while travelling through places such as Ethiopia, Tanzania, Haiti, Jamaica, the UK and the Middle East, creating a passionate and modern global sound. Sonically, the production of the music relies heavily on analogue sounds, sampling straight from vinyl, using valve compressors and mastering to 2-inch tape, combined with modern digital techniques.

The New Dub City Sound 7 inch will be followed by a full-length album due for release in June. Both releases will see Ali MC and New Dub City Sound tour extensively, bringing a bass heavy and energetic live show to towns and cities throughout Australia and New Zealand. In just under 12 months Ali MC and New Dub City Sound, an evolving live act combining percussion, vocals and on the fly dubs, have performed in venues throughout Australia as well as hosting their own monthly night ‘War Inna Babylon’ in Melbourne.
