One of numerous European émigrés to New Zealand after World War 2, Mirek Smíšek formed a strong personal philosophy of the positive value of living a creative life as a result of his war experiences. This exhibition features 60 pots spanning 60 years of Smíšek’s work. His favoured forms of vases, bowls, crocks, jugs and yunomi (Japanese tea-bowls) are all represented, as are the variations in glaze, shape and decoration he developed as his work matured.

Exhibition developed by Mahara Gallery, Waikanae. Curated by Gary Fremantle.
