Celebrate Waitangi Day 2011 at the magnificent Okahu Bay Domain. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Waitemata Harbour, hosted by local tangata whenua (Ngati Whatua Orakei) in partnership with Auckland City Council.

Okahu Bay was the original site of the arrival of Governor Hobson who was invited by Ngati Whatua chiefs to create the city of Auckland in 1841.

Everybody is welcome to be a part of the official welcome (Haka Powhiri) at Okahu Bay at 0900am.

Bring the whanau to sample the beautiful hangi, seafood, and other delicacies.

The children can enjoy safe access to the beach, kids rides (motor bikes, bouncy castles, inflatable slides, tower drop, slides) and also the farm animals or pick up some great Maori artwork, a tee-shirt and other gifts for yourself or friends. Tamaki Drive will be shut down for the entire day.

Then, sit back with your whanau and listen to the full musical line-up of Main Stage begins at 10:30am featuring RnB and Dance Crews hosted by FLAVA 95.8 followed by leading Aotearoa groups such as Katchafire, 1814, Soljah, the legendary Herbs and Tiger Hour.

This is a safe, fun, family focused enjoyable day. Come along and celebrate NZ history in Tamaki Makau Rau-Auckland.

This is a ‘Zero Waste’ event to protect our beautiful land and sea for futures generations. Please take your waste home with you to dispose of properly at home.

This event is alcohol free and drug free to role model positive messages to the tamariki (children). You will be aksed to leave the event venue if you bring alcohol or drugs to the event. We want to protect our tamariki and be healthy role models for the future.

Best of all - this event is free free free for all - only made possible by Ngati Whatua Orakei and Auckland City Council funding and our sponsors Vodafone and Flava 95.8
