Set in the serenity of Northlands beach and holiday haven, Mangawhai – Selective Soundz is the music festival celebration to peak the epic end of Summer…

Boasting a most impressive line up of live bands and DJs, licensed bars, gourmet food and sideshow stalls, in a casual and festive atmosphere…

KORA, who tops the line up, are renowned and revered for their massive live presence and dynamic stage show. Kora are the roots and dub outdoor festival band of the summer! Their self-titled album debuted at #1 on the NZ Charts, and has already achieved double platinum status.

Also bound for The Selective Sounds music festival stage this year is a fresh Kiwi fusion of roots, reggae, hip hop, dubstep, and drum and bass, 5 piece band, six60 - who emerged from their bleak student flat (appropriately located at 660 Castle Street, Dunedin) to the praise of festival goers and Kiwi fans. Their recent tour of NZ was a total sellout - “bringing it to you live and massive!”

Local Northland lads, 1814 have been skanking up crowds nationwide and abroad with their live upbeat, funky approach to roots and reggae. Their debut album, Jah Rydem, has been rated as one of the finest this year and captures their live sound of soulful sax, deep groove and melody in true kiwi flavour.

ANIKA MOA is destined to charm audiences with her passionate songs, razor sharp wit and one of a kind talent for the live stage. A finalist in 2010's Silver Scrolls Awards and winner of the Best Female Solo Artist at the recent Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards, Anika is one of the finest songwriters and performers this country has to offer.

Former member of hip hop group, Fast Crew, DANE RUMBLE also graces the Selective Soundz stage with a bounty of chart successes throughout both New Zealand and Australia, racking up three consecutive top 20 singles. Live, his amazing musicians and dynamic songs are a perfect addition to the already stunning and thorough line up.

Continuing down the deep list of performers is SOLJAH who, after releasing their 6 track EP ‘Moving Up’ in July, are continuing to create waves throughout Aotearoa, wowing audiences with their take on foot stomping, rock cross reggae. November sees the band on tour throughout the country, then into the studio to record their highly anticipated and eagerly awaited follow up album.

So fire up the VW Van, adorn the triple coloured tea cosey, and hacky sack, and celebrate the end of Summer in Mangawhai.

Summer is deciding that after London's two worst winters for a long time, to move back to NZ and enjoy the hot lazy days and sending photos of beach life to those stuck back in the snow and cold.

Summer is simple - sun, love, laughter, fun. This summer will be different, I will celebrating moving past and accepting a disability, beating depression, and turning my face to the sun once more - I MADE IT! Through the tunnel, and out the other side. Reaquainting myself with old friends, old habits, memory lane....and making new trips, and memories. Its a celebration of personal success.

summer is to me only 2 words: fun and festive!
eg.I come out of my hibernation period of winter. The depression veil of winter and cold lifts. I love summer soo much, its an instant mood enhancer. Summer and the warmth makes me mentally AND physically feel great. summer is beaches, bbq's,tan, friends, party fest, music and most of all Beer. Im like a snake in the summer sun, absorbing the suns rays to give me energy and power.
My motto in life is to 'follow the sun".luckily I get to travel alot, i would spend 6 months in the New Zealand summer, then when winter arrives i fly to italy where its summer all over again!

Summer means long hot sunny days, cool water in Mangawhai, bbq's, cold beers, friends & family, good conversation and good memories listening to your favourite jams and singing along with them.
Gathering kina, crays, & pauas and getting oysters off the rocks. Throwing out the fishing line ready to catch the big one in the Kaipara Harbour!

To me it means melted chocolate all over the face; the towel wrapped around me being blown away by the wind; a birthday party under a palm tree when last 18 birthdays were in deep snow and freezing cold; salty hair flying around my face and sticky cold fingers; going to bed singing, waking up singing; running bare-footed under the heavy rain and then dying of cold in bed; empty diary and having no idea what day of week it is.
A summer is a little life.

Jumping into my rusty 1985 Toyota Corolla with my ridiculously dressed mates who are going to give each other shit the whole way for entertainment. Driving through the gorge, following the river up towards the far North. The laughter overrides the music at times, though our voices do join it when we all know the words...or try to. Stopping at that little coffee shop we forget has such bad coffee and crappy sandwiches until we are spilling the coffee down the outside of the car again. Stopping for road works, giving the lollipop boy a cold brew and a high five. Arriving at the beach, feeling like a foreigner because you still get blown away by this beautiful country.

Harvesting from my garden of strawberries, beetroot, peas, tomatoes, cucumber and herbs straight to al fresco brekkies and tea of salads, omelets and iced tea or coffee; Going to open air concerts, festivals, airshows, Sunday markets and beaches; Walking barefoot, watching colourful sunsets, enjoying an afternoon nap on a warm day with cool breeze. Getting a kick out of making overseas friends on Facebook jealous with our glorious summer as they shiver thru their winter. Wearing shorts and sleeveless shirts and jandals...and most of all, just having an open house with curtains drawn aside and sunlight streaming thru the windows. Ahhhh...summer, wish it was forever!

Summer to me is a symbol of freedom, fun and good weather. Having the ability to make plans with friends to run away for some days to a lost beach. Having long and warm nights outdoors...increased endorphins, yummy salads, bikinis, cotton, picnics, gardening, music, singing, guitars, bbqs, mosquitos, cicadas, tanned skin, sunblock, AND COCKTAILS!,
