A festival showcasing the difference in Deco including a glamorous stage show in the main theatre "Love and Money", a matinee show from one of New Zealands master directors Warwick Broadhead "Having a Life and Being Idle" and a 2 day performing vaudeville style show aptly named Voice of the City, presented in a ‘Speigel Tent lookalike’ in the Hawke's Bay Opera House Plaza;

Voice of The City Vaudeville Style Theatre Space:
Friday 18th, Saturday 19th Febuary 5pm-12pm

An illusion of a ‘Spiegel tent’ (mirror tent very popular in the 20s and 30s as a venue for travelling shows) will be set up in the HB Opera House Plaza including a lounge bar area + stage with a rich, decodant feeling. The stage will showcase mostly ‘amateur’ acts interspersed with professional entertainers and Marx Brother movies.
The theme will be the difference in Deco.
This deco Voice of the City tent will work using vaudeville style theatre, where a variety of unrelated acts are billed together and gives locals a voice to express Art Deco (‘vaudeville’ derived from the expression voix de ville, or "voice of the city”).

The tent will work 3 fold:
A platform for local performers to experiment with the theme of Art Deco
To present a professional national act
Marx Brothers movie(s)

The weekend format will be developed using local talent, from dance, magic, singing, poetry and short one act plays. The acts will be determined by the applications received from theatre groups, dance studios and associated networks who will be offered the challenge to perform. If you are keen to be a part of this ring Karen 0212279860 or Josie 0275234139.

Opening times and show programme:
Friday 18th February: 5pm to midnight
Saturday 19th February : 5pm to midnight
Sunday 20th February: 2.30pm Having a Life and Being Idle
At all times there will be acts or movies showing with an MC weaving it all together.

The professional acts are programmed as follows-

Saturday 7pm: Judith Bauderick
Sunday 2.30pm: Having a Life and being Idle

Various local acts will perform constantly as scheduled at a later date.
Entry fee for Voice of the City Vaudeville Style Space
Unlimited daily entry with a cover charge of $5 at all times will be in place, with children free.
