A great way to start the concert year! Capacity houses are expected when internationally-acclaimed Anna Leese performs with the Southern Sinfonia in its Last Night of the Proms concerts in Dunedin Town Hall on Friday 25 February, and Oamaru Opera House on Saturday 26 February.
Anna Leese is in high demand, especially in England and New Zealand. We are lucky that she is returning home – what a treat to start the year off enjoying one the world’s top sopranos. Anna will be singing a range of songs – from films and musicals to popular classics, accompanied by nationally-celebrated Southern Sinfonia, Dunedin’s professional orchestra.
The conductor for the concert is Hamish McKeich, making his Sinfonia début. He works regularly in Australia and Europe, and conducts all major orchestras in New Zealand. From 2002 to 2006 he was Associate Conductor of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
The City of Dunedin Choir will be there too, enthusiastically encouraging audience participation in Proms favourites such as Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia, Jerusalem and Fantasia on British Sea Songs. And the University of Otago’s top performance and composition music students will be showcased as well.
MC is Kate Mead, a Production Manager for Radio NZ Concert, and her task includes urging the audience to produce their very best singing and flag-waving!
The Sinfonia is expecting packed houses both at the Dunedin Town Hall and Oamaru Opera House – so be in fast and book your seats now.
