The first installment for 2011 will see reggae heavyweights The Black Seeds perform with talented acts Jayson Norris, A Hori Buzz, Chris Cope, and support DJ’s.
Headline act, The Black Seeds, have recently returned from the US, to bring their big-beat dub style to New Zealand gig-goers this summer.
“We’re really looking forward to sharing some new sounds with the crowd in Christchurch and there’s definitely no better way to do it than hitting the stage with some awesome Kiwi bands at the Jameson Jam Sessions,” says lead singer Barnaby Weir.
The Black Seeds
After heating up dance floors across North America, The Black Seeds are back in Aotearoa. Consider the masterful eight-piece live band suitably warmed up as they get set to bring their boundary-crossing sound fusion of big-beat funk, dub, soul, and afro-beat, mixed with vintage roots-reggae back home this summer.
Jayson Norris
Since last visiting NZ on his “Love Someone” tour, London-based Kiwi, Jayson Norris, is readying himself for a busy summer. Not only will he be doing a New Zealand tour, playing a few sets at Homegrown and supporting (plus joining) the cast of Fly My Pretties, but he will also be launching his new single “Window” and releasing his album Freedom 28 on Loop at the start of 2011.
A Hori Buzz
A Hori Buzz is Aaron Tokona - also the front man of legendary band, Weta - and Nick Gaffney - from Cairo Knife Fight. With Tokona leading the way as the band’s frontman and Gaffney anchoring the outfit on drums, this meteoric two-piece is going to get you moving with their high-energy hybrid of funk space rock!
Chris Cope
Chris Cope is a one-man band with a mature, yet playful, approach to his art. Take the musical nous and pop sensibility of John Mayer, add a pinch of Jeff Buckley virtuoso soul, and deliver it through grounded lyrics to complete the package. Don't call it an arrival, call it a graduation.
Door sales will be available on the day.
