The theme for the 2011 Festival of Flowers is 'burst! of water'. The Festival of Flowers is stepping up to address the water issue, to raise awareness and educate. Water has become a critical issue globally. Although New Zealand is a water-rich nation, we also face threats to the quality and quantity of our water. The water theme will be realised aesthetically through floral displays and explored through exhibitions, keynote speakers, a panel discussion and a screening of 'Water Whisperers Tangaroa'.
The traditional 23+ metre Floral Carpet (in ChristChurch Cathedral 11 - 20 Feb) will be themed 'Where Streams of Living Water Flow' and other floral decorations, including Ikebana, a 'Water is Precious' garden and topiary sculpture will also reflect the water theme.
