Aoraki Ice Breaker Dragon Boat Regatta 2011

Aoraki Dragons ran this very popular start-of-the-season event for the first time in early December 2008, and it is now a regular feature of the season.

Christchurch teams hit the water for their season's training from the end of October. They are likely to be on Lake Pegasus this year, because of the earthquake damage and contamination in the Avon and Kaiapoi Rivers. So by early December they are very keen to "break the ice" again. There will be first-time paddlers in many of the teams, and they will be keen to see what a real race feels like. So join us to see how they go!

Experience the colour, the noise and the up-close excitement of dragon boating. Plenty of free viewing from the grassy banks around the beautiful man-made lake at Pegasus Town, 20 minutes north of Christchurch.

The first of the 20+ races starts at around 10am. Races build in length over the day, starting with the 250m races. Then around midday the 500m race series starts - this is the premier race distance. Then at around 3pm teams will finish with the exciting long distance race - a 2,000m race with three turns. All races finish just to the north of the beautiful swing bridge.

Aoraki Dragons are thrilled to be working with Infinity Realty to bring racing to Pegasus Lake, just 25 minutes north of Christchurch. Come and experience the colour and excitement of the dragons!

Aoraki Dragon Boat Association Inc is a not-for-profit collective that represents teams in Christchurch, to develop the competitive sport, providing facilities, boats and event organisation.

Note: "House of Travel" will have their triathlon on Pegasus the next week (Sunday 11th). They are not associated with Dragon Boating.
