The World Première performance of Dark Stars: written and directed by Arthur Meek, starring Jonathan Council.

Dark Stars is an exciting new solo play, written and directed by Arthur Meek. Arthur has written for stage, screen and radio, worked as an actor and performed in musical comedy. In 2010 he was co-creator and -writer of the satirical newscast Feedback, which ran on TV2. In 2009 Arthur received a record 9 nominations at the 2009 Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards for Collapsing Creation, a play based on the life of Charles Darwin. He is a two-time Bruce Mason Award nominee, and was the Summer writer-in-residence at the Michael King Writers Centre.

Dark Stars features American actor and Waiheke resident Jonathan Council, who portrays a version of his own life, as an unlucky African-American actor who - in seeking his big break - is propelled by misfortune to Waiheke Island, where he unearths the forgotten story of Australasia’s most popular Black Minstrel, Irving Sayles. Dark Stars is the story of two men whose lives are separated by a century, but who are both faced with the same dilemma: is fame worth the price of your dignity?

Dark Stars is already booked to open both the Wellington and Adelaide Fringe Festivals in February 2012 - and you can see the first performances in the world, right here on Waiheke!

Tickets are available in advance from TimeOut Café, or you can book on 372-2941 (msg) or email ArtworksTheatre@gmail.com. Booking is highly recommended. If not sold out, tickets will be available on the door.
