'In Between Days' - a new New Zealand play by Gill Saker.
It’s 1985. A shabby old villa by the beach in Milford on Auckland’s North Shore is shared by Steve, Rachel and Lucy, three middle-class 20-somethings who grew up in the area. The flatmates are enjoying a relaxing night at home after work, smoking dope, having a few drinks and listening to music. The youngest flatmate Lucy has just reappeared after vanishing for a week with her latest conquest. She has come home to find her room in a mess.
During a philosophical argument/chat about what sets off the resident ghost they hear a noise coming from the attic upstairs. Debate ensues at to whether it’s the ghost that has been haunting the house until they hear some definite human bashing and crashing.
It is Richie, brother of Lucy and his mate Gonad. They have been off on a surfing trip for a couple of months. They ran out of petrol and money at Silverdale.
They settle in for the evening catching up on news, sharing stories when they are rudely interrupted. The driveway is filled with the headlights of an unfamiliar car. The laid back night of drinking, smoking dope and telling stories is over.
Their relationships will never be the same again.
Directed by Rob Owens. The reading will be performed by Regan Taylor, Jordan Mooney, Gwen Taylor, Rachel Nicholls, Rangi Rangitukunoa, Riley Beare and Ryan Krebs.
Bar opens 6pm.
Reading starts 7pm.
NB: Strong language and drug references. Some content may offend some people.
