Bohemians of the Brush takes us on a visual journey with James Nairn and his colleagues, who, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries went against the mainstream to develop a unique, New Zealand impressionist style of painting. This exhibition brings together oil and water colour landscapes which are emotive and glowing with their makers’ appreciation of New Zealand’s natural beauty. It also features the work of Francis Hodgkins, one of our most internationally recognised artists.
Developed by Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre, Upper Hutt, and based on the Pumpkin Cottage Paintings Collection gifted by Earnest and Shirley Cosgrove. Curated by Jane Vial and toured by Exhibition Services Ltd.
Image: Mabel Hill, [Akatarawa Road], 1905, watercolour.
Entry free with admission to Museum. Locals and under 5's free.
