Cabaret Birdlesque Comedy - 'Birds of Paradise' serves up a unique, flamboyant and feathery feast for this 2011 Christmas party season, in this special highlights show.
Hatched by the multi-talented film and show maker Morag Magnolia Brownlie, who weaves a stunning cast with dance, drama, song, birdlesque, astounding costumes and quirky comedy into an unforgettable show.
Featuring "a most stupendous menagerie", the witty comedy about love and sexual chemistry explores the lost art of wooing through the courtship rituals of some bizarre and ornately costumed feathery friends.
This unique cabaret company has a floating cast of flamboyant characters - intricately costumed flock of birds hailing from Aotearoa and the Pacific. Saddle backs, tui, white herons, kakapo, New Guinea 6 plumed birds of paradise, just couldn’t find any kiwis...
Audience members are invited to "dress with style" and come adorned with a birdy fascinator hat or feathery cravat.
Come alone - you might even meet someone - or bring your workmates for a Xmas doo to remember...
1/2 price pizza night on Thursday, full dinner service Friday. Bookings are essential - please ring the Sawmill Cafe on 09 4226019 for full details. Limited seats available - show starts at 9pm sharp.
“The disarmingly beautiful Birds of Paradise is a unique blend of feathery fantasy and environmental fairy tale"
Theatreview
“Of global appeal, with outstanding use of sound and costume… a genius of casting... Full of surprises, moments of pathos and sexually competitive humour... One of the best shows I've seen this year"
Theatreview
"Magnificent and just slightly mad, Morag Magnolie Brownlie's "birdlesque cabaret" is more than a pukeko's squawk, a tui's warble, a flirty fluff of tail feathers, a celebration of mating rituals - both the avian and human kind."
