TWAM The Travelling Mechanical Music Man (a.k.a. Trevor W.A. Morley) is a collector of old mechanical music instruments (and their music). Amongst his collection:
c. 1880 McTammany Organette (plays a roll of perforated paper much in the manner of a pianola)
c. 1899 Gem “Cob” Roller organ (plays a small, circular, metal-spiked wooden “cob” - bit like a music box)
c. 1912 Edison Amberola 30 wax cylinder gramophone (wax cylinder player)
c. 1924 Rolmonica (a harmonica that plays via a roll of perforated paper)
c. 1924 Play-A-Sax (ditto, but it is a small saxophone)
c. 1920 Tanzbar (outwardly it is a standard button accordion, but within is the mechanism to play via a roll of perforated paper)
c. 1927 HMV 78rpm portable wind-up gramophone (plays 78rpm records)
TWAM will demonstrate some of these mechanical music machines, playing original music as well as modern reproductions. For his HMV portable 78rpm gramophone he will bring about 600 of his records (out of his collection of about 8,500) and the audience will be able to request tunes from catalogues which he will make available to the attendees.
