The New Zealand School of Music is pleased to announce the inaugural NZSM Jazz Festival for high school jazz bands. The festival will feature internationally renowned jazz artists including Alex Sipiagin (trumpet), Bob Sheppard (sax) and Steve Houghton (drums).
The 1st Annual NZSM Jazz Festival will host jazz big bands and combos from high schools throughout New Zealand. The festival will provide performance and adjudication opportunities for high school students, include clinics on improvisation, instrumental technique and jazz education for directors, as well as the NZSM High School Jazz Improvisation Contest for individual players.
The Festival will feature a public gala concert on the Friday evening starring our international guests, expert staff and tutors from NZSM and the award-winning NZSM Big Band.
Observers are welcome during the day: students free, adults just $10 for a day pass.
