Te Kōkī, the New Zealand School of Music presents the 2011 Hunter Series, a series of Thursday evening concerts featuring music making of the very highest calibre.
The New Zealand Clarinet Quartet (The Plight of the Dischords) was formed in late 2009 to perform project based concerts of mainly New Zealand music. In March 2010, their highly successful debut ‘Microscore Madness’ concert consisted of 40 new short pieces, mainly by New Zealand composers. A live recording of this concert can be heard at the SOUNZ (Centre for New Zealand Music) library.
The New Zealand Clarinet Quartet consists of Debbie Rawson, Tui Clark, Hayden Sinclair and Nick Walshe. The programme for this concert covers a range of diverting music from Baroque to 20th century, to cutting edge NZ contemporary.
The vibrant ensemble recently performed at the International Clarinetfest 2011 in Los Angeles where they premiered works by New Zeland composers Natalie Hunt and Phil Brownlee (funded through Creative New Zealand.) They will give the NZ premiere of these works along with the world premiere of a work by Scottish composer Iain Matheson. The programme also includes a work by Boismotier and a Hungarian style piece by Jeno von Takacs.
This event will take place in the Hunter Council Chamber, Hunter Building, Victoria University of Wellington. Parking can usually be found on Kelburn Parade, or behind the Hunter Building by entering Gate 1. Seating is limited to 150, so to be sure of a ticket, we encourage you to pre-purchase online. Remaining seats will be available for door sale.
