Join curator Laura Preston and artists Chris Prosser and Anna Sanderson in a discussion on the exhibition project that continues to be (A Film Called) Ellipsis - running until Sunday 21 August 2011.
In Continuous Project Altered Daily (October Books, 1993), American artist Robert Morris proposes that sculpture can accommodate time and the environment. Inspired by this collection of writing, three different practitioners will take up residence in the gallery to produce an accumulative environment—akin to a film in the making—to reflect on the act of collecting as a process in time.
Artist Richard Frater responded to the New Zealand Film Archive’s holdings of personalized and amateur film documents on nature (16-24 July); musician and composer Chris Prosser sampled material from his own archive of musical scores (26 July-7 August); and writer Anna Sanderson responds to the ceramic collections held at Victoria University of Wellington (9-21 August).
(A Film Called) Ellipsis is part of in camera: a project series around and about collecting staged alongside Behind Closed Doors. Located in one room of the Adam Art Gallery, the Kirk Gallery, this series illuminates other personal acts of collecting.
