Amnesty International at Victoria Uni present the 2011 Amnesty International Fundraiser Gig.
This year with 6 fantastic bands/artists to make a massive lineup. With little interest to have you hear the same sound twice, the Amnesty team have got you probably one of the most diverse gigs in Wellington this year. With rap, blues rock, folk, reggae, post-punk and warm solo acoustic.
Doors opening at 7.30pm, and music starting at 8.30pm. Seriously, none of that it's cool to be late, we have to start early. There’s six bands! So come early and enjoy an immersive evening of diverse spectacular music. Hosted by Radioactive morning show host Redbird.
Tickets $15 a pop. All proceeds go to Amnesty International. With:
The Eastern (Christchurch) – Are a string band that roars like a punk band, that swings like a gospel band and that drinks like a country band. Toured with Old Crow Medicine Show, Steve Earle and opened for everyone from Fleetwood Mac to the Jayhawks. Notable for their 2009 self-titled debut album that broke onto the NZ Top 10 indie charts, and their 2011 collaborative charity record ‘The Harbour Union’ for the Christchurch Earthquake relief. Averaging over 200 shows a year and well toured locally and internationally, The Eastern are one of NZ’s most warm, authentic and listenable acts.

Slur Tones – Energetic, refined and a polished live performance. The Slur Tones are a trio formed in Wanaka and based in Wellington, and have been described as ‘if Franz Ferdinand merged with The Strokes and The Mint Chicks, and you're there.”

Farmer Maori and the Maori Farmers – A fully hard out good operatic reggae sensation. Featuring the number one hit ‘Smoke the Dope!’ Described by frontman Farmer Maori as “just a bunch of farmers smashing out for your taringas”. They’re just really choice!

Megalex - The rap-tastic brainchild of one Alex M. Wilson, who can pretty much rap about anything. The plan is for you to name the topics and for him to freestyle up a storm all about it. Nothing rhymes with orange? Doesn't matter! Megalex is less ironic than Das Racist, soberer than Lil' B and deeply obsessed with Big L. Megalex genuinely, seriously and actually loves rap music and hopes you will join him in getting low. Last time someone got him to rap about skiing. And that's really difficult.
No website? That’s because it's improv!
Fraser Ross – Raised around a quarry on the Port Hills of Christchurch. A keen lyrics man, and an inter-song banterer. This folk gypsy-pop singer always delivers a soulful set full of heart.

High Class Hobo Society – Live blues power raining furious decibels upon your unsuspecting ears. They describe themselves to ‘eat anything off any style of plate (within reason) because we are hobos. High class ones. Who run a society of music known around the Miramar as The High Class Hobo Society’.
