Bay of Plenty Symphonia is proud to present this special concert which will showcase the talents of five outstanding young musicians. The five finalists have been chosen from entries received from Bay of Plenty secondary school students. They will each perform one movement from their chosen concerto, accompanied by the Symphonia. The finalists are:

Laura Settle, Tauranga Girls' College: Trumpet, Concerto in Eb, Neruda.
Saejung Oh, Tauranga Girls' College: Flute, Movement 2, Flute Concerto, Anthony Ritchie.
Eric Begley, Tauranga Boys' College: Clarinet, Movement 1, Clarinet Concerto No.1, Weber.
Yubin Kang, Bethlehem College, Tga: Violin, Movement 1, Symphonie Espagnole Opus 21, Lalo.
Dominic Lee, Bethlehem College, Tga: Cello, Movement 3, Concerto in C major, Haydn.

The five finalists represent excellence in their chosen instruments and the three judges from the Auckland Philharmonia will have a difficult task ahead of them in choosing the winner.

Stuart Crosby, Mayor of Tauranga has accepted the Symphonia's invitation to be the Master of Ceremonies for the event.

Bay of Plenty Symphonia is an amateur regional orchestra with a strong student musician focus, encouraging students to audition for their three annual concert series. Dedicated students, including a few as young as eleven years old have earned their places as members of the orchestra. Student musicians elect to play on a concert by concert basis, depending on their other commitments.

Music lovers of all ages and all who enjoy seeing young people excel in whatever area they have chosen, in this case, music, are in for an unforgettable evening.

This concert is proudly supported by Pub Charity, Newstalk ZB BOP 90.2FM and The Weekend Sun, Tauranga.
