This year, when our national game takes centre stage around the world, Rotorua Museum will be hosting an exhibition that celebrates the proud role Bay of Plenty has played in the history of rugby in New Zealand.

Bay Proud - A Century of Bay of Plenty Rugby, is a multi-media exhibition developed specially for Rotorua Museum and timed to coincide with the Rugby World Cup.

The exhibition begins with pioneering forefathers who made their mark on the national and international stage, and highlights the rich national contribution the Bay has made to both Māori and Sevens rugby. All Blacks from the area, memorable victories, and the way provincial unions tick will all be revealed.

‘Bay Proud is just that; an exposé into why provincial people are fiercely loyal when it comes to the game of rugby’, says curator Malcolm Mullholland.

Bay Proud – A Century of Bay of Plenty Rugby will be open at Rotorua Museum from 13 August to 4 December 2011.
