Just when you’ve had enough of the cold winter, along comes the Paeroa Jazz Festival on August 20th to brighten your day and remind you that Spring is just around the corner!

Hailed as a Winter Jazz Festival it is deliberately held at a time when not much else is happening and people are looking for something to help shake off those Winter Blues. All the main venues are indoors where we create a lovely ambience and provide bar facilities and delicious food to eat while you sit back and enjoy the fantastic entertainment on offer. One of our favourite venues is the Linn Motors show room where the cars are cleared out, chairs & tables set up along with Ohinemuri Winery’s bar, creating the perfect space to enjoy this year’s performances from the Tait Kora Ensemble and the LIndsay Meech Jazz Band.

Our top act Nairobi Trio are scheduled to play at the RSA, alternating with the Tauranga Big Band from Auckland, where there is a great dance floor for those who want to shimmy and swing! This venue carries on into the evening with the Prohibition Big Band who will perform a Jazz set and some good old fashioned favourites for a black tie dance.

We have some younger musicians coming who play a lot of their own compositions combining both modern and jazz in an energetic and exciting style.

Adam & Coralie Usmani and their Collective will play at the Ohinemuri Club while Spiral Band featuring Cameron Sangster and Andrew Hall will be performing in the old Farmlands building.

We embrace different genres as well to make a varied and interesting day as there are always those who don’t like ‘Jazz’ although as it covers such a broad spectrum, it is hard not to like at least some of the many styles on offer. Some of our specialties will be the appearance of the “Big Muffin Serious Band” who provide some great entertainment and Orquestra Amadeus who play a funky upbeat Cuban charanga style of music who were so popular last year that we have invited them back again.

Other entertainment will feature in the cafes and along the street adding to the general excitement of the day.
