The New Zealand String Quartet celebrates the 2011 bi-centenary of Liszt with dazzling music composed by Hungarians or inspired by the sounds and rhythms of Hungary. Joining them on the “Hungarian Rhapsodies” tour is brilliant piano virtuoso Péter Nagy, one of the brightest stars of the generation in Hungary that inherited the great piano tradition established by Liszt. Nagy, a graduate of the famous Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and winner of the prestigious Liszt Award in 2001, has a remarkable international career as soloist and chamber musician, performing throughout Europe as well as in the US, Asia and Australasia.
Programme:
Dohnanyi - Piano Quintet No. 2 in E flat minor, Op. 26
Ligeti - String Quartet No 1 ('Métamorphoses nocturnes')
Brahms - Piano Quartet No 1 in G minor Op. 25
