An open invitation to celebrate Auckland's newest stretch of public waterfront with a day of festivities that is free for all!
On Saturday 6th of August there will be a full day of public activities to celebrate the opening of the first stage of the Wynyard Quarter revitalisation.
7am: Public and guests assembling on Te Wero Island to cross the new Wynyard Crossing.
7.15 – 9am: Approach of the Waka, Official Powhiri and blessing ceremony.
9am: North Wharf restaurants open
9am to 5pm: Activities and music at Auckland Fish Market
10am to 11am: Public art launch in Gateway Plaza
10am (and on the hour until 5pm): Site tours leave from kiosk
10am to 5pm:
Art fair in the Viaduct Events Centre
Boat displays and racing in the Viaduct
Museum tours of Voyager
Piano sessions in Jellicoe Plaza
Tram journeys
Climbs up the Silo 6 Pack
11am to 4pm: Lantern workshop in Gateway Plaza
12pm to 5pm: Music sessions in Silo Park featuring:
- Zoh Zoh
- The Vietnam War
- Coast
- Don McGlashan and the Seven Sisters
- APO "Remix the Orchestra"
5pm to 5.30pm: Assembly/parade of lantern bearers. Lantern launching ceremony from Plaza Steps
6.30pm to 7.30pm: Fish and chips for tea from Auckland Fish Market
7.30pm to 9.30pm: Launch of Silo Cinema - The classic “Some Like It Hot”
