The annual New Zealand International Film Festival continues to be the premier film event of the year, and the cultural highlight of the New Zealand winter. We bring an impressive array of the latest and best films from all over the world to 15 cities and towns around New Zealand.
The Festival commences early in August, lighting up central Dunedin. The line-up will feature more than 60 titles including key titles from the Cannes and Sundance film festivals.
All films, other than designated retrospectives, are New Zealand premieres (a key requirement for films in the programme) so that we can offer audiences their first-ever opportunity to taste a cinematic smorgasbord of titles not confined to the mainstream.
A rich and varied programme of international and homegrown features and documentaries as well as key retrospective presentations have been announced. All announced films can be found at http://www.nzff.co.nz/dunedin/find-a-film
Palme d’Or winner The Tree of Life, from director Terrence Malick and starring Brad Pitt, has been confirmed as the Opening Night film and the official unveiling of the newly restored Regent Theatre in Dunedin on August 4.
The Festival’s retrospective programme is always hugely popular. This year audiences will have the chance to enjoy Martin Scorsese’s gritty Taxi Driver in all its glory on 35mm film on the giant CinemaScope screen.
The Festival travels to the main centres – Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, Christchurch, Palmerston North, Hamilton – before continuing around the country to Nelson, Tauranga, New Plymouth, Hawke’s Bay, Greymouth, Masterton, Gisborne and finishes in Kerikeri in November.
Dunedin programmes are available from July 11. Censorship classifications will be published in the Festival’s programme, daily newspaper advertising, website and will be displayed at the venues’ box office.
