Pouwhenua are ‘Markers on the Land’ — markers that Maori used as wayfinders or boundary markers. Pouwhenua takes this concept and embodies it in a contemporary form – the billboard. Leading Ngai Tahu artists have been invited to create a billboard design in response to the theme “Te Haka a Ruaumoko — The Earthquake’s Dance” and will have three days to create their work, These will be displayed in the Events Village for the duration of the Christchurch Arts Festival and Rugby World Cup 2011.
