The New Zealand String Quartet celebrates the 2011 bi-centenary of Liszt with dazzling music composed by Hungarians or inspired by the sounds and rhythms of Hungary. Joining them on the “Hungarian Rhapsodies” tour is brilliant piano virtuoso Péter Nagy, one of the brightest stars of the generation in Hungary that inherited the great piano tradition established by Liszt. Nagy, a graduate of the famous Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and winner of the prestigious Liszt Award in 2001, has a remarkable international career as soloist and chamber musician, performing throughout Europe as well as in the US, Asia and Australasia.

Bartok - String Quartet No 2 Sz. 67.
Ligeti - String Quartet No. 1 ('Métamorphoses nocturnes').
Liszt - Fourth Mephisto Waltz/ Bagatelle sans tonalité.
Liszt - Csárdás in F-sharp minor and Csárdás obstinée.
Dohnanyi - Piano Quintet No. 2 in E flat minor, Op. 26.
Programme 2 (Saturday 27 August):
Beethoven - Rondo alla ingharese quasi un capriccio in G major Op. 129.
Bartok - String Quartet No 4 Sz. 91.
Liszt - Hungarian Rhapsody No 12 for piano.
Brahms - Piano Quartet No 1 in G minor Op. 25 (1861).
