Sonic Waves is New Zealand's newest music festival. Held in Whangamata on the Coromandel Peninsular, known for its legendary surf breaks, beautiful beaches and epic forestry landscapes.

With the biggest line up of bands to hit Whangamata in decades, Whangamata is definitely the place to be this Easter Weekend 23rd of April 2011.

The Black Seeds, Tiki Taane, Hollie Smith & Tyson Smith, Sola Rosa Sound System, Soljah, Drew Bowden, Shed 23, Knights of the Dub Table!

Located 5 minutes away from the town centre in the Opoutere School Grounds and Neighbouring Bridson farm. With some of New Zealand's very best artists on show through out the day and late into the night. The sounds will be nothing short of amazing.

For those wanting to camp at Sonic Waves Festival, there is a camp site located next to the main arena. It makes an ideal place to rest up after a big night, and without the hassle of getting home or responsibility of driving. (Be sure to get your camping tickets early, numbers are limited)
Sonic Waves organisers are committed to the safety of all its patrons. So being responsible hosts, we are providing a full bus service to transport everyone to and from the concert. Buses will run continuous loops around Whangamata, with pic up and drop off points. Check www.sonicwaves.co.nz to find a convenient pic up location. All you need is $5 bucks to use the bus loop and pay when you hop on.

On Sunday morning there is a Market with loads of stalls and things to do. It's free, so if you are in the area come down and check it out. If you have stayed the night in the Sonic Waves camp you can refuel with fresh coffee and yummy food before you hit the road.

COROMANDEL IS...... Inspiration, Peace, Joy, Abundance...
A pocket of paradise perched inside a time-warp that restores the soul..

The coromandel coast inspired this poem...Summer by the sea....

A hot summers day, I watch the waves wash, in and out on the shore.
The sands warm, as the sun shines down, hard on my shoulders.
Children playing, making castles in the sand,
as i watch the waves wash, in and out on the shore.
A couple walk by hand in hand, an excited Labrador at their sides,
as i watch the waves wash, in and out on the shore.
An old mate fishing, he's caught the big one, he smiles, dinner is mine!
as i watch the waves wash, in and out on the shore
the day in ending, the sun goes down, a shepherds sunset slowly, melting over the ocean.
As i watch the waves wash, in and out on the shore.

Apparently there is a Coromandel Coast in India whose the name was probably derived from the Sanskrit "Karamandala" as a result of European influence. It means "Land which receives the Rays of the Sun". Also Chanel names it's very exotic red nail polish "Coromandel". Both of these references seem to encapsulate the essence of the Coromandel. We Kiwis don't tend to think of our country as "exotic" but if we were to use the word to mean "unique" and "out of the ordinary" - then the Coromandel is definitely "exotic". This is especially true of the area around Opoutere itself. Exotically beautiful and uniquely Kiwi!

hot summers, cicadas singing, bbqs sizzling, a lazy drink and a dip in the big blue to cool off. Coromandel is about spectactular scenery, good times, good friends and soaking up the sun :-)

like everybody says.. the beaches are some of the most beautiful in nz and the wider world...warm weather...gosh what a place. one of my favourite places is doughnut island. you have to kayak there and go through a treacherous hole in the rocks to find a picture book island paradise inside the hole of the doughnut-shaped island

Coromandel is just a charming place,it has splendid scenery, unspoilt beaches, quaint heritage towns, even its name is historic, its roots in the Indian coastline but is also the name of a British Royal Navy sailing ship that collected logs of the kauri tree that grows straight and knot-free in local forests.

filled with craft shops, cosy cafes, and pubs, not to mention tourist attractions such as gold panning, hot water beaches and hot pools, fishing, and gardens,a butterfly garden,a mountain railway, scenic walks, swimming, festivals, surfing and kayaking,it is the perfect holiday getaway.

The Coromandel is one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand. It has some amazing beaches including Hot water beach, the great surf beach and deep sea fishing spots of Whangamata, challenging bush walks in some of the best forests, great fishing opportunities all around the coast line, and if you go by sea to the Mercury Islands you will find some stunning rocks and scenery. There are lots of very interesting craft people with incredible art works including the train through Barry Brickle's pottery site. Quaint eating places with delicous food and many chances to have a taste of a new wine. I just adore the place and have spent many Christmas Holidays there in my campervan, lying in bed at night listening to the gentle slapping of waves on the soft white sands

When your feet touch the soft sand and you feel the grit of it beneath your toes; when you hear the roar of the waves crashing onto the shore; when you smell the tantalising tastes of a summer barbeque and hear the sweet sounds of children laughing you know that you are in one New Zealands most stunning areas - none other than the great Coromandel. The sounds and sights of a coro summer are more than priceless, more than any words can describe... A perfect example of the kiwi clean, green, natural image for all the world to visit.

I love the many places spread out along coromandel, from thames, tairua, whitianga and the coromandel town itself. Great spot to go to as a quick weekend get away without being too far to drive out of Auckland.

    **********GO THE COROMAAAAAANDELLLLLLLLLLL********
With the unspoiled coast by your side as you travel along the crispy blue saltwater, it is definately the place to be! A place that tickles most individuals taste buds - not just with the fine dining and wine in Mercury Bay, but the awesome surf in Whangamata and the hot water beach for the surfies, pauanui for the oldies or the "upper class", or for the alternative individuals they can check out the little querky markets in Thames. AND we can not forget the CONSTANT festivals to entertain us young'ns such as COROGOLD!!!! This coastline is definately MY FAVE!!!!!

I love the Coromandel! Beautiful wide stretching beaches, epic surf and a natural aquatic playground with amazing diving, snorkelling, kayaking and fishing spots. My favourite discovery - kayaking in the hollow island at Whangamata!

I think Coromandel and instantly think RELAXATION. It is nothing less than a slice of paradise. I love it because my favourite beach in NZ is there - Hahei Beach! White sands, clear blue water, unimaginable views. So much to do in gorgeous Coromandel and the people are extremely friendly. Coromandel township itself hosts delicious restaurants, shucks even the fish n chip shop has those awesome hot chips with melted cheese topping. YUM! On top of all that ... its an easy 2 hour drive from the hustle & bustle of Auckland. Too easy.

Coromandel has stunning scenery and some of the best fish and chips in New Zealand! Mercury Bay winery has excellent wines and is definitely worth a visit. The Mercury Bay's rugged coastline covers some 20km of the eastern Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand. Named after James Cooks voyage of 1769, where under orders of his country, he anchored not far from Cooks Beach in the safe harbour to observe the Transit of Mercury on November 9th 1769, while his ship Endeavour took on fresh provisions.

Whats not to love about the coromandel, beautiful beaches, amazing bush walks, great fishing, beautiful drives, activities. peace and quiet when you need it - activities keeping the area alive.
Keep it clean and green and free to all members of new zealand society to enjoy in fredom and peace. With friends in the area i never have enough time to enjoy spending in coromandel. Would love to make it home.

The Coromandel - I love everything I've heard about it. I've yet to get there. My kiwi partner and I moved back to NZ about a year ago and we've been meaning to travel and see more of my new home but it just hasn't happened. Would love to be there for Easter!

The Coromandel - love the relaxed atmosphere - miles of wild greenery and sandy beaches. Walks along uncrowded beaches at dusk, blue as far as the eye can see (barring a few amazing islands dotting the seascape). Time slows down and relaxation is immense! Bring it on!
